YEP! Grant
TCAH Myanmar is a proud recipient of Howard County's FY25 Youth Engagement Programming (YEP!) Grant. This program aims to cultivate a sense of belonging, cultural pride, and personal growth among Burmese American youth in Howard County.
Program Elements
Cultural Enrichment: We have successfully hosted a cultural showcase and Myanmar New Year festival at the Howard County Library, celebrating Myanmar culture and heritage with the local community. In collaboration with AAPI, we also presented interactive workshops at the AAPI Festival, including thanaka making and dance instruction activities.
Civic Engagement: Students will gain hands-on experience by visiting local government offices, meeting elected officials, and participating in programs like the Maryland Youth Assembly Council. This will enhance their understanding of government operations and inspire future leadership.
Summer Enrichment: Our annual summer camp will be expanded to include arts and crafts, sports, and field trips. We will also explore cultural exchange programs with other youth groups in the community.
Social-Emotional Learning/Mental Health and Wellness: Our programming will include workshops on stress management, coping strategies, and cultural identity to address the unique challenges faced by Burmese American youth and families.
Youth Development and Global Citizenship: For ages 12 and above, the "Becoming Global Citizens" classes will focus on leadership, critical thinking, and cultural understanding. Younger participants, ages 12 and below, will engage in "Little Scholars" classes to develop academic curiosity and problem-solving skills. We have successfully enrolled and finished our first batch in early September. We will continue to expand our online language classes, academic tutoring, career guidance and mentorship.
